SHMS Hosts ESOL Parent Resource Night

On March 6, 2025, South Habersham Middle School hosted a memorable evening for families at the annual ESOL Parent Resource Night. This event, organized by parent involvement coordinator Liliana Rojas and ESL Lead Teacher Dena Tyree, aimed to connect families with valuable community resources. It was a resounding success, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among attendees.

The evening began with a warm welcome and a delicious dinner, creating an inviting atmosphere for a night filled with valuable information and community building. Parents and students enjoyed the meal together, promoting camaraderie and collaboration.

After dinner, attendees were treated to a series of insightful presentations from esteemed community partners, each offering unique perspectives and resources to empower families and support student success:

Hispanic Alliance of Georgia: Focused on cultural integration and community support.

Goodwill Cornelia Business Center: Offered guidance on employment opportunities, skill development, and resources available at their center.

  • Avita: Provided information on mental health resources and support services.
  • Lift University: Rosa Gaines shared opportunities for families to enroll in English classes with the audience.
  • Habersham Health Department: Shared crucial health and wellness information for families.
  • Bridging Hope: Offered resources for building resilience and hope within the community.
  • Habersham Family Connection: Donna Barrett discussed fostering family engagement, educational success, and the resources available for families.

The highlight of the evening was the student presentations, where students confidently shared their future goals and aspirations. With enthusiasm and clarity, students articulated their dreams, from pursuing higher education to various career paths. This segment underscored the vital role of community support in helping students realize their potential.

The success of the ESOL Parent Resource Night demonstrated the power of community collaboration. Attendees left with a wealth of knowledge and a strengthened sense of connection.
