Mission Statement:
 
The mission of the Habersham County School Media Centers is to create media programs that:
 
  • build a foundation for lifelong learning through information literacy,
  • develop and instill a love of literature and reading for information as well as for pleasure, and
  • provide support materials to enhance and reinforce the entire curriculum.
 
General Information:
 
The media center is open to students from 7:40 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Students visit the media center with their reading/ELA classes on a bi-weekly basis, but students may visit the media center on their own anytime the media center is open with teacher permission.
 
Fines are charged for overdue books, and students must pay the replacement cost for lost books. Checkout may be suspended for students with charges on their library accounts. Any questions regarding library accounts should be referred to Mrs. Bogue or Mrs. Boelter.
 
Checkout Quick Guide:
 
Number of books students may check out at a time: 1 (or 2 if teacher requires a book for an assignment)
Checkout period: 2 weeks
Renewal period: 2 additional weeks if needed
Fines: $.10 per day
 
Accelerated Reader
 
Students requirements for Accelerated Reader are below. Media Center staff will assist students in finding appropriate AR books during their media center visits.
 
  • 1st 9 Weeks--1 Fiction or 1 Nonfiction book

  • 2nd 9 Weeks-- 1 Fiction & 1 Nonfiction book

  • 3rd 9 Weeks--1 Fiction & 1 Nonfiction book
  • 4th 9 Weeks-- 1 Fiction or 1 Nonfiction book
  • Books should be appropriate for your reading level and must be approved by your teacher.

  • Accelerated Reader quiz scores for each nine weeks will count as test grades.  The highest fiction and highest nonfiction scores will be used.

  • AR tests may only be taken during school hours in the classroom or media center.

  • Students may complete an additional book activity to add points to the AR test score.  Each activity is worth 10 points.  Example activities are:  AR vocabulary quiz, writing a book summary, writing a book review, or creating a book flyer.

  • Students who score 70% or above on all AR tests during a nine weeks will have their name posted on the media center bulletin board, receive a small prize, and will have their names entered in an end-of-the-year drawing (prize will be announced soon).
